AdBlue In your Fuel

In Somerset we have seen increasingly more occurrences of AdBlue contamination wherein somebody has put AdBlue inside their diesel fuel tank. This is partly as a consequence of drivers not being aware of the right way to work with it (be aware: it's in truth not a fuel additive), and in part simply because the filler caps for diesel and AdBlue are usually directly adjacent to each other on the automobile.

Well, exactly what is the issue with having AdBlue in the diesel vehicle? Because the product is mostly deionised water, it's as bad as pouring water in to your tank. Diesel and water really do not blend in any way and trying to run a diesel car on water is not going to work. Moreover, the urea is seriously corrosive to fuel system lines and seals and is at risk of crystallisation, damaging injectors and fuel filters.

Water contaminated fuel, regardless of whether it's unleaded petrol or diesel, is in many cases an important issue to address in a vehicle - especially in modern-day common-rail engines. Water in fuel may well trigger idling problems, uneven running, increased smoke and, if not sorted out effectively, possibly ruined injectors.
